Blundering eco-warriors have been slammed after attacking scores of cars in a fossil fuel protest – but damaging eco-friendly motors by mistake.

Around 100 cars at three showrooms had their tyres drilled leaving them unusable.

But some of them were eco-friendly electric and hybrid models.

On social media, an account named OilSabs claimed responsibility for the vandalism posting a video of someone appearing to make drill holes in tyres.

The account has just 19 followers on X and the video was its first ever post.

It said: “Tyres drilled today at Bristol, Exeter & Truro Land Rover.

“We sabotage infrastructure & systems which support production, development, distribution & burning of fossil fuels.

“SUVs = 62% of GB sales 2024 “SUVs kill kids, pollute air & contribute to global heating.”

OilSabs or Sabotage Oil for Survival also issued an online statement about the attacks at Vertu Land Rover in Exeter, Devon, Truro in Cornwall and Bristol in the early hours of Monday.

It said: “Today three Landrover dealerships have been sabotaged as the first action of a new campaign, Sabotage Oil for Survival.

“In the early hours of the morning, over 100 Landrover SUVs have had their tyres drilled across three dealerships in Bristol, Exeter and Truro.

“This action comes after 2024 was declared the hottest year on record, breaching the 1.5 degree safe limit agreed upon by world leaders at the Paris Agreement in 2015.”

The statement quoted a ‘father of two who took part in action’ who said “SUVs kill kids, they pollute our air and they are an enormous contribution to global heating.

“We’ve seen the wildfires in California, the floods in Valencia, the storms hitting the UK; climate breakdown is here.

“I can’t sit by and let these fossil fuel death machines threaten our children.”

A spokesperson for Vertu confirmed that all-electric and hybrid vehicles were among those damaged at the dealerships, as reported by What’s The Jam.

They added: “This an example of mindless criminal vandalism, which targeted a wide range of vehicles at our two dealerships.

“We are working with the police to help bring those responsible to justice.”

And Wayne McNally mocked the attackers saying on X: “You’ve drilled through tyres on fully electric cars.”

Ashley Rogers added: “Vandalising hundreds of tyres.

“What you have really achieved.

“More emissions disposing of the old tyres, more emissions producing new tyres, more emissions distributing those tyres, more emissions fitting those tyres.”

Roger C Barber said: “Causing more damage to the environment, this is not the right way to go about it.

“Go to Saudi Arabia and other oil producing companies and assist them in finding alternatives to oil.”

Andrew posted: “Is that an electric drill?

“All you achieved today was getting more new tyres manufactured clever ha ha.”

While Colin Bullock simply posted a GIF of Buzz Lightyear saying, ‘There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere’.

And Ian Gray added: “Just makes me use my old land rover even more, whoppers.”

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall police told NeedToKnow: “Police are seeking information regarding criminal damage to a number of SUV vehicles in Exeter and Truro.

“The incidents happened at Vertu Motors on Matford Way, Exeter and Cornwall Business Park, Truro on Monday 17 February.

“If anyone has witnessed anything, has CCTV or doorbell camera footage that captures anything suspicious in regard to this, please contact 101 quoting 50250041245. “
