One of the world’s most expensive toy planes is for sale for £4,000.
The amazingly accurate fibreglass and balsa model of the WWI Royal Flying Corps Sopwith Camel is the most valuable in an extensive collection.
The eight-foot-long model of the iconic British biplane is part of the Oscar Davis Collection of over 30 model planes.

The whole collection has been valued at over £60,000.
The Sopwith Camel was introduced on the Western Front in 1917.





It was developed by the Sopwith Aviation Company as a successor to the Sopwith Pup and became one of the best-known fighter aircraft of the Great War.
Pilots flying Camels were credited with downing 1,294 enemy aircraft – more than any other Allied fighter of the conflict.
Other planes in the collection include a Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf109E valued at £1,150 and a Royal Air Force Supermarine Spitfire at £1,600.

They are all being auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in March, as reported by What’s The Jam.
A spokesperson said: “Hailed for its diversity and rare quality this sale of remarkable scale aircraft and associated memorabilia marks the final chapter in the story of a collecting giant.”
Oscar Davis, former chairman and owner of Hayward Industries died in February 2021 in New York aged 95.

He was a legendary collector amassing valuable vintage cars as well as model planes.
