Jamie Oliver has left Italians fuming over his controversial carbonara recipe.

The 49-year-old recently put together what he called an “authentic” version.

While creating the dish, the TV chef used traditional ingredients such as guanciale for the meat and pecorino romano for the cheese.

But Italians could not believe their eyes when Jamie added a clove of garlic to the pan of chopped meat.

Italian Stefano Angrisano said: “Not a classic carbonara.

“Carbonara is made with guanciale, pecorino romano, black pepper and egg yolks only – and, please, no garlic at all.”

Fellow Italian Maria Gotto added: “There’s no garlic in carbonara.”

Carlo Boy-Vascellari said: “Jamie it’s called Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, and to be fair with the original recipe you should only use the egg yolk.”

Mark Gowen stated: “Sorry, lost me at ‘optional’ garlic.

Gordon Ramsay came under fire for putting peas in his last October.

Italian Juline Marconi said: “For fudge sake. Guanciale, egg and pecorino, it’s not that hard.”

Fellow compatriot Sandro Luc added: “I love Gordon but this is not carbonara.”

The meal sold for £15 at his Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza restaurants.
