A celebratory dinner took an explosive turn after a birthday girl’s friends accidentally bought fireworks for the cake instead of candles.
Syifaa Lemaire was marking turning 23 with pals, Gabriel da Mata Gomes, Hanna Mars and Nisrine Abbouch, when restaurant staff brought out a beautiful red velvet gateau.
Footage of the special moment shows Syifaa buzzing with excitement as Gabriel leans in with a lighter.

But before the pals can finish the first verse of ‘Happy Birthday’, sparks start shooting into the air and Syifaa throws herself to the side.
The trio had earlier bought what they thought were two candles from a local shop for £2.53.
“We got them from a store and the lady who worked there told us that they were ok to go on a cake,” Gabriel, from Amsterdam, Netherlands, told What’s the Jam.
“They were a bit bigger than cake sparklers.
“For the first few seconds, we didn’t notice but they started bumping off and making a wheezing sound like a flute and we realised they were fireworks.

“The sparks started falling on us so we ducked under the table to cover ourselves.
“Everyone was in shock. Other customers ducked. We were so embarrassed.
“Beforehand, there was music and everyone was chatting. Afterwards, it was silent.

“I was too embarrassed to look at people in the eye.”
Luckily, no one was injured and the explosion didn’t cause any damage to the restaurant.
Operations coordinator, Gabriel shared the clip on TikTok where it has racked up more than five million views and 900,000 likes.
Gabriel added: “It’s funny now, but at the time, we were all afraid. We didn’t see it coming.
“We can laugh now because, thankfully, no one was hurt and there was no damage to the restaurant.
“There was soot from the fireworks on the table but it wiped off.
“When we watch the video back we laugh so much.”
