A diner yelped in pain and burst into tears as a live ‘thumb-splitter’ shrimp speared her hand at a fancy restaurant.
The woman was filming herself as she lowered the large crustacean into a pot of steaming water, as reported by What’s The Jam.
But the shrimp managed to wriggle free from her grip and landed on the table.

She tried to pick it up a second time using her chopsticks before it latched onto the palm of her hand with its claw, causing her to shriek out.
Footage shows her wincing in pain as she tries, in vain, to pull the shellfish off.
A waiter tries to help her, but the woman continues to moan in agony.
Eventually, the shrimp is dislodged from her hand and a napkin is placed over the wound.
The clip was reportedly filmed at a suki restaurant in China and was shared on social media on Saturday (11 August),

In suki restaurants, diners cook raw raw ingredients by dipping them into a pot of simmering broth.
Once cooked, they are dipped into sauces and eaten.
According to reports, the crustacean in question was a mantis shrimp.

Mantis shrimps are sometimes called ‘thumb-splitters’ because their claws are strong enough to wound a human.
They use their greatly enlarged appendages to smash through hard-shelled prey and stab soft-bodied animals.
They are so powerful that at least one man has had to have a finger amputated after being struck by one.
