A microbiologist has revealed the grim reason why we should wear flip flops when showering at the gym – with shocking test results.
Nick Aicher, who works as a senior quality control analyst, regularly goes viral sharing clips testing the cleanliness of various everyday items and places with his 455,000 TikTok followers.
In a recent clip, he tested the amount of bacterial growth on the floor of a gym shower, with baffling results, as reported by What’s The Jam.
Starting the experiment, Chicago-based Nick unveils a cotton bud and swipes it back and forth over the floor.
He then labels his petri dish “public shower floor,” before rubbing the cotton bud inside.
He then incubates it for a few days, before taking it out to examine the marks made by the bacteria-ridden swab.
He says: “That’s why you should wear some flip flops.”
The post has garnered over 13,000 views.
One viewer, Cherry, commented: “Someone hold my hand I’m scared to see the results.”
Someone else added: “I hate sharing showers.”
Fluff said: “Yikes.”
Jam added: “Buying shower shoes now.”
But some users were less shocked.
One wrote: “Tbh, I thought this would be way worse.”
Momo added: “Not as bad as I expected actually lol.”
Whatever your thoughts, next time you hit the gym, it might be worth packing a pair of flip flops – your feet will thank you.
