It carried a pre-sale estimate of £1,000 to £1,800 but quickly surpassed expectations after interest from across the world, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Watchmen, first published in 1986, is widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in modern comics.
Its twelve issue run redefined the superhero genre with its layered storytelling and moral complexity.
The series was adapted into a major feature film and an award winning television series, further cementing its cultural impact.
John Anderson, of auctioneer Anderson and Garland, Newcastle upon Tyne, said: “Original pages from Watchmen rarely come to market.

“And when they do they tend to cause quite a stir.
“This result shows the series still has real superpower in the eyes of collectors worldwide.

“It is a reminder that nearly 40 years after publication the impact of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ creation remains as strong as ever and its place in comic book history is firmly secure.”
