An independent cafe is hitting back at the opening of a Gail’s bakery by offering free coffee to deter new customers on opening day.
Brown and Green cafe, in Crystal Palace, took to Instagram today (12 Dec) to rally support from the local community.
They wrote: “Crystal Palace independents stand strong.

“We can ride this wave.
“If you locals, customers, friends and loyal regulars continue to shop, eat, and drink in all of Crystal Palace’s independent cafés.
“Free coffees today at Triangle.”
The post sparked a wave of support from locals, as reported by Whats the Jam.
One commenter wrote: “And I bet your loyal customers would even be willing to pay for their coffee because they support small businesses.”
Another added, “You’ve got this.”
One critic added: “Honestly maybe lower your prices and stop making out mashed up peas are avocado toast.”
A local woman in her thirties said: “Let’s support local businesses.
“The Triangle is a community. I’m not going to go to Gail’s.”
