The episode focussed on Ian Lavender’s character Private Pike who was stranded on a mined beach and in need of rescue.
The 34-page manuscript had an estimated value of £5,000 with the piece of TV history going for £1,500 over its initial estimation.
The buyer will actually end up paying £7,800 in fees to secure the item.
The script featured in Auctioneum’s British comedy, animation, TV, and film auction, as reported by What’s The Jam.
It was purchased on Tuesday (31 December) in Bristol.
The script also came with a letter from David Croft which stated: “I can write better than this but in trying to keep up with my thoughts, legibility goes out of the window!’
Andrew Stowe, auctioneer, stated: “‘It’s a unique piece of comedy history.
“‘Here we have the original ‘warts-and-all’ manuscript, direct from David Croft’s brain, put straight on the page.
“It’s quite remarkable!’
“Dad’s Army is still so loved, and still regularly watched by millions of people – to have such an important part of its history is very special indeed.
“This particular episode was focussed on the character Private Pike, portrayed by the late Ian Lavender.
“Ian actually trained at the Bristol Old Vic school, just a few minutes away from our salesroom – so there is a strong local connection too.”
