The otter and fox were seen strolling up the high street of Lincoln city centre in the middle of the night.
The heartwarming footage was shared by the Lincoln City Council, as reported by What’s The Jam.
The pair strolled up and down the shops before making their way towards the Brayford pool.
The unlikely duo seemed to enjoy each other’s company.
Unfortunately, when the otter had had enough of being on land, it returned to the water, entering the Brayford pool.
The fox looked on in despair as its friend for the evening went home.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Our CCTV staff work 24/7, 365 days a year to keep Lincoln and all its inhabitants safe.
“They see families enjoying the city, friends making memories, and every now and then, an unlikely friendship blossoming.
“This week, they caught one worth sharing.
“It’s not quite the new John Lewis Christmas ad.
‘But here, filmed in the wee small hours, is a short film of a fox and an otter and their little tour of Lincoln together.”
Members of the public were left in awe by the video filmed on 21 November.
Chris Withey said: “Better than a Christmas John Lewis TV advert.”
Keeley Knowles added: “Getting their Christmas shopping in whilst it’s quiet, but honestly, the cutest thing I’ve ever seen is not every day you catch something like this.”
Barbara Moulson said, “Love this an,d then the fox watches the otter go back to their water world, brilliant.”
Claire Muddiman added: “What a beautiful friendship.”
Another said: “Totally fabulous.”
