The 21-year-old shared her devastated reaction in the clip, explaining why she was so gutted to not be having a girl, but was stunned to later discover the results had been inaccurate.
“Gender ‘disappointment’ is real and it’s OK,” Hailey, who is due in January, told What’s The Jam.
“In January, I’d experienced a miscarriage and, that night, I dreamed of a little girl in a yellow sundress.
“When I found out I was pregnant again, I prayed for our girl, and in my heart I knew she’d come back.
“I was so eager to know the gender of our baby due to struggling with developing that connection out of fear I’d lose this baby too.
“We did an at-home blood test in the summer – it was accurate with our so,n so, I thought this one would be accurate too.
“It said it was a boy.
“My heart was so sad, not because I was having another boy but because my heart longed for that baby girl.
“I’ve always dreamt of having one of each gender.
“My reaction to seeing the blue cake was solely grief.
“I felt like I was grieving the baby we lost and grieving the life I had once envisioned.”
Hailey, a daycare teacher living in Washington, US, decided to share the raw video to remind other mums-to-be that “if this was your reaction too to your gender reveal, it’s OK”.
But incredibly, despite coming to terms with the idea that she’d have a second son, Hailey later discovered the test results had been wrong.
She said, “As soon as I got attached to the idea of having two boys, we got our NIPT [non-invasive prenatal testing] blood test results back, which showed that our baby was actually a girl.
“Talk about a whirlwind of emotions!
“We have gotten it confirmed via ultrasound that we are expecting a girl, and our first results were wrong.
“Our baby girl is due January 2026, and we are over the moon!”
