She had created a fake profile on a dating app under the name Jessy.
And not only did her boyfriend match with the non-existent woman – he travelled to meet up with her too.
“We were together for four and a half months and three weeks and he said I was taken, called me his girlfriend multiple times, and said I should assume he was my boyfriend,” the designer told What’s The Jam.
“We’d also had an agreement to tell each other if we had sex and/or started seeing anyone else.”
Kendel says she began to get suspicious when they were watching the movie Fatal Attraction together.
In the film, a man cheats on his wife.
Kendel said: “He felt bad for Michael Douglas’s character and said he had gone through that, despite previously saying he’d never cheated on his ex-wife before.
“When I asked him what he meant he said he misspoke.
“That made me suspicious.
“We had met on Bumble and I knew it was his preferred dating app, so I decided to see if he still had an active account on there.”
Kendel, from Illinois, in the US, set up her own account as Jessy and was stunned when she matched with her boyfriend.
She says they talked for one day before he asked to meet.
She said: “I felt really sad because at that point he wasn’t just the guy I was dating but also one of my best friends.
“We’d talked about anything and everything, including how we’d been hurt by lying and cheating in the past.
“On that day we spoke on the phone about our relationship positively.
“His ability to then switch to texting back ‘Jessy’ sexually and making a date with her told me he’d been doing this for a while with other girls.”
Still pretending to be Jessy, Kendel invited her boyfriend to visit her at a hotel.
When he arrived, she left him waiting for half an hour and then blocked him on the dating app.
After the incident, she confronted him via text, writing: “My friend Jessy told me everything. Why would you do that to me?”
To which he responded: “Childish. Goodbye.”
She replied to say: “I’m done with you. I would never trust you again.”
Kendel says the two haven’t spoken since she confronted him via text message.
Kendel added: “While he was sexy-flirting with Jessy on text that day, he and I talked on the phone for like 30 minutes about our relationship, and what the next three months would entail – just having heart-to-heart conversations.
“I’m looking for the love of my life but in the meantime I’ll just keep on taking out these players.”
