An urban explorer has shared incredible footage of a 12th century castle which appears to have been left to rot.
Yannik, 21, from Germany, is an urban explorer who tours the world’s most bizarre and unique abandoned properties.
The business and economics student has travelled to the likes of France, Luxemburg, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia and Egypt, and has come across some horrifying buildings that have been left to rot for decades.
He has recently gone viral after sharing a video of a castle in rural France that looks as though the owners up and left, leaving everything behind.
In a clip shared to Instagram, Yannik reveals the outside of the castle in a beautiful setting surrounded by nature.
Inside, the sprawling property is laden with debris and dust, but the belongings of its former owner have been left – from taxidermy owls to old prams and pictures.
Clips show a long hallway with huge glass windows, decorated picture frames, chairs, and ornaments.
In another hallway, there is also a scooter and a pram – signs that a family may have previously lived there.
The clip also shows a bedroom with a bed made up, wardrobe, desk, old fireplace and cot all left abandoned.
In another room he shows an old statue, as well as paintings and dated wallpaper.
“I‘ve never visited an old abandoned building like this, with such a big history, which is what I really liked about it,” Yannick told NeedToKnow.online.
“Some rooms were really old and antique and then there were some more modern rooms.
“Every room that I entered was completely different, and I’ve never had an experience like that.
“There were a lot of pictures from former people that lived there too.
“My favourite room of the castle was the one with the old pram.
“It had many pictures hanging on the wall where you could see what a beautiful life the former family that once lived here had and that they were a really happy family.”
Only later did Yannik learn more about the history of the castle.
Having parked near a cemetery, when he went back to his car a local man spoke to him and told him the castle dates back to the 12th century.
Yannik said: “I was really perplexed because I didn’t expect the castle to be that old!
“It’s always nice to get information from local people, it always makes the exploration even more interesting.”
The clip of the castle has since gone viral after he shared it on Instagram, garnering 144,000 views and over 7,500 likes – with one user saying it looked “haunted”.
Rosy said: “Beautiful!!!”
Someone else added: “If you can find these abandoned places, how come other people don’t and clean them out? These places are beautiful and so sad!”
“12th century means that this building is 822 years old,” said another user.
Simone commented: “What a magnificent place. Those baby carriages… so lovely… The passage of time is such a divine storyteller.”
Cindy said: “Love this!”
“That is a fantastic haunted house! Great abandoned find,” said another fan.
“Loved this, I love all the old castles,” commented someone else.
