An influencer claims she was uninvited to a wedding because her beauty and slim figure would “outshine” the bride’s appearance.
Sabrina Low was “extremely happy” when she was asked to be a bridesmaid for her pal.
But the happiness was short-lived.
After spending around £245 for her dress, as well as “time and expectations”, the 23-year-old content creator was told she was no longer welcome.
“I had everything planned; I bought the dress, paid for the hairdresser and makeup,” she told What’s The Jam.
“However, two weeks before the wedding, I received a message on WhatsApp that changed everything.
“The bride explained that she was worried I might attract too much attention because of my slim frame and it wouldn’t look good for me to be beside her at the altar all the time.
“The dress I bought for the wedding cost nearly £245.
“I invested money, time, and expectations in this event.”
The influencer, who has 87,400 followers on Instagram, has been left feeling deeply hurt by her friend’s alleged actions.
The Brazilian native said: “I never thought something like my weight could be an issue in a situation like this.
“It was very hard to accept that my presence could be seen in such a negative light, especially by someone I considered a close friend.
“Losing all that [time and money] for something so superficial was a hard blow.
“This [situation has] made me rethink a lot about true friendship and what it means to be valued for who we really are, not for our appearance.”
Sabrina also reflected on beauty standards and the pressure many people feel to fit expectations.
She added: “It’s amazing how people feel entitled to judge someone else’s body without thinking about the impact it can have on someone’s self-esteem.”
