A lucky kitten who endured a 250-mile road trip wedged inside the undercarriage of a BMW has not only survived – she’s now cuddled up with her new family.
The tiny black cat was discovered when a couple heard a faint meow coming from their newly-purchased electric vehicle.
Having just taken a four-hour journey, they went to plug the vehicle in to charge it.
That’s when they spotted the feline, who had accompanied them for the lengthy journey – and miraculously survived.
Emergency crews tried to help extract the five-week-old kitten – but their tools and all the noise only drove her deeper into hiding.
That’s when Whitney Mail, a long-time rescuer who has saved over 800 cats, stepped in.
She brought along bacon, tuna and a YouTube video of kittens crying to aid the mission, as well as a humane trap to transport the feline.
“I really wanted to take a break, but honestly, there are no breaks in rescue,” she told What’s The Jam.
“The calls keep coming and right now it’s kitten season.
“I know that all the noise and the banging and drilling just ends up scaring the kitten.”
Whitney named the cat Beemer.
Weighing in at 1.5lbs, it is believed she found her way into the undercarriage of the car at a BMW dealership in Boston.
It was then driven to South Orange in New Jersey – a whopping 250 miles away.
After a check-up at Valley Vet in New Jersey, Beemer was temporarily placed with Whitney’s rescue partner, Lisa.
Since then, she has been adopted by a family with a young girl and renamed to Luna.
Whitney said: “It was lovey at first sight; Beemer literally melted into her [the child’s] arms.
“She had not done that with anyone else.
“Her new name will be Luna and she has gone home with her forever family.
“She will have a feline brother called Mr Cloud and a canine sister named Stella!”
Whitney continues her work with the help of her longtime vet Dr Morkos and donations on her Facebook page.
