A woman who tears her tree down on Christmas Day has hit back at trolls who compare her to the Grinch and call her a “bad mum”.
Georgia Schofield from Hartlepool, North East packs up her fir at 5pm on the big day every year to make room for her daughter Ava’s Boxing Day birthday decorations.
But not everyone agrees with the the 25-year-old’s move, with trolls branding her a “bad mum”.
The mum-of-two hit the headlines last year and has now once again attracted attention after going viral on TikTok (@bruh.georgia) with a video that has over one million views, 50,000 likes and over 800 comments.
But Georgia isn’t phased by other people’s opinions and insists that their negativity doesn’t affect her yearly ritual.
“I take the tree and the other decorations down and replace them with Ava’s birthday stuff,” she told NeedToKnow.co.uk.
“Of course, I do it when the kids are in bed.
“I’ve been doing this for the past four years, this year will be the fifth
“It’s a lot easier for me if it’s kept simple so it’s easy to put away, as I’m a single parent so I do it all on my own.”
Georgia, who is not only mum to four-year-old Ava but also has a three-year-old son named Leo, says that although the decorations are removed quickly, she does in fact enjoy the festive period.
She said: “I absolutely love it because I get to see the excitement from the kids opening their presents and they love to help decorate the tree.
“I do enjoy the Christmas period although it’s very stressful.”
Georgia has received countless abuse on social media for her controversial choice, with trolls calling her “spiteful” for making way for her daughter’s birthday celebrations.
She added: “My family and friends understand why I do it but when I went viral online for it I did get mixed opinions, which is to be expected.
“I’ve been told I’m spiteful as it’s not fair on my youngest for taking the tree down.
“But, like his big sister, he knows no different as it’s been done all his life.
“I don’t really let negativity get me down.
“Don’t get me wrong when it gets personal it does get to me because I’m being judged off people who don’t know me or my life.
“You can’t please everyone but the way I see it is it’s my life and I’ll do what I want to do whether people like it or not.”
Social media users commented their dismay under Georgia’s video, with many hitting out at the mum for her actions.
One user added: “I don’t see why that means the tree has to come down lmao.”
Mandy said: “Even if my birthday was boxing [day] I’d still want the tree up.”
Another used wrote: “Why not just change it to a birthday tree.”
Someone else added “You’re a better woman than me. All i can manage at 5pm is a nap.”
Another user added “My birthday is the 27th and I’d cry if my mom took all the Christmas stuff down.”
