A woman was left with an “extremely swollen” pout after botched lip fillers and claims the beauty practitioner blamed her period.
When Malene Mauer visited a local salon in her hometown, she expected to walk out with glossy, plump lips.
The 24-year-old had received lip fillers before, so she was expecting it to go as well as usual.
But when leaving the salon, she realised something had gone drastically wrong – and her lips had “ballooned”.
She shared a video of her experience on TikTok, which has over 1.3m views.
“At first everything went fine, but then she [the nurse] hit a tissue or blood vessel in my lips, which caused a lot of swelling,” Malene, a lash technician, told What’s The Jam.
“Because of that, I had to get the filler dissolved right away, and my lips and my face became extremely swollen.
“I’ve had fillers done five times at other places before, and it has always gone well.
“I didn’t expect anything unusual this time.”
A few hours later, Malene’s lips began to get even bigger.
She said: “The pain increased, and the swelling didn’t go down.
“That’s when I realised something wasn’t right.
“It lasted a whole week, and I just wore a face mask every day.”
Malene contacted the salon but claims she was met with a baffling excuse.
She said: “She [the nurse] blamed it on the fact that I most likely had my period.
“I was then given some pills to reduce the swelling.
“And she just sent me daily messages asking how my lips were.
“I just continued to wear the face mask and hoped the swelling would go down.”
Malene decided to choose another salon for her next top-up, but suffered another reaction.
She said: “I was honestly too scared to do it, but I really love having lip fillers, so I tried it again later at another place.
“The same thing happened, and the practitioner told me that I most likely developed an allergy to fillers from the very first time.
“I’m unsure if I would try and get them done again.
“I would like to, but it’s very scary when the swelling gets as bad as it did for me.
“So I think I’ll have to wait quite a long time.”
Malene captioned the social media post: “POV: When you say ‘just a little bit’ and they take it personally.”
The clip has gained over 29,700 views and almost 300 comments.

Malene, from Oslo, Norway, added: “To any other girls looking to get lip fillers, I say do a lot of research before you decide on a place.
“Make sure the person is certified, check reviews and don’t rush.
“It can look tempting on social media, but it’s still a medical procedure and things can go wrong.”
