Now, the 42-year-old has revealed that plastic is showing up in our brains – and says it’s “extremely dangerous”, reports What’s The Jam.
In the clip, which has racked up 23,000 views and over a hundred likes, he shares how to stop this.
“Water bottles – not just bad for the planet, it could be in your brain,” the doctor, from California, US, says.
Dr Sethi explains that new research found microplastics in human brain tissue, with higher levels in people with dementia.
He continues: “These particles can cross the blood brain barrier, potentially causing inflammation and damage.”
But where do they come from?
Plastic water bottles, if exposed to heat, or from microwaving plastic containers, which release microplastics into the food, are the main culprits.
Though plastic tea bags can leak “millions” of microplastics into the hot beverage, too.
Dr Sethi explains three ways to stop your brain from being clogged with the material.
He says: “Use glass or metal water bottles.
“At home, use a reverse osmosis filter.
“Never microwave plastic.
“Switch to loose leaf tea.
“You cannot avoid microplastics completely, but can certainly limit exposure.
“Your brain will thank you.”
