Known for her pop hits and TikTok dominance – and having recently played at Glastonbury – the 24-year-old has now added elite chess player to her growing list of talents.
And it turns out she’s got the family credentials to back it up.
Her aunt is none other than Susan Lalic, a legendary British chess player who held the Woman Grandmaster and International Master titles and dominated the national scene in the 1980s and 90s.
Susan, who was born in Kent like her niece, represented England at nine Chess Olympiads and boasted a peak rating of 2405 – higher than 99.9% of players worldwide.
PinkPantheress, who has 2.7m fans on Instagram, has admitted that she’s always had a quiet passion for the game.
She confessed on a previous Reddit AMA that if she hadn’t pursued music she’d be a professional chess player, as reported by What’s The Jam.
The win on 3 July comes off the back of a huge few weeks for the singer, who has seen her latest track ‘Illegal’ go viral across social media.
