You can now buy a slice of cake from King Charles and Princess Diana’s 1981 wedding – for a whopping £2,500.

To put this price into context, a fruit cake that serves 12 will set you back just £6 at ASDA, but then again, it isn’t a piece of royal history.

For £2,500 – which is more than the price of even the most lavish of wedding cakes – the buyer will also get proof of authenticity, as well as two other slices of royal wedding history.

Sold by Paul Fraser Collectibles slices, the collection also includes slices from Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s 1986 wedding cake and one from Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips’ 1973 nuptials.

Needless to say, none of this cake is edible anymore, but pictures of the offering show it still very much looks like cake.

It’s been reported that a typical slice of fruitcake can actually be edible for a month in a pantry, so it makes sense that it would be given out as wedding gifts.

Fruit cake can reportedly last as long as six months refrigerated and even up to a year in the freezer, while still remaining edible.

The wedding cake slices once belonged to the Queen’s official bodyguard, who was present at King Charles’ wedding and other notable royal events, What’s The Jam reports.

Fruitcake is clearly a favourite at royal weddings and each piece comes in a commemorative box, although the condition of the box from Princess Anne’s wedding is described as ‘fair only’.

Other items of royal wedding importance are included in the collection, such as an official order of service for Charles and Diana’s wedding at St Paul’s Cathedral.

There’s even a ‘ceremonial’ of Charles and Diana’s wedding day, which explains what happened minute-by-minute on the day.

You can also get an insight into what presents the royal couple received, with a catalogue of their gifts included too.
