Fancy earning £120,457 per year?

NASA has opened up applications to find their next team of astronauts.

It’s an event that only occurs every four years and carries quite the list of criteria.

The lucky candidates are expected to be the ones flying further into space than ever before, even stepping foot on Mars and visiting the lunar south pole.

The annual salary is £120,457 ($152,258).

But, there’s a strict set of requirements to pass.

For starters, NASA is only after US citizens and you must have an abundance of experience in your belt.

And, in addition to having teamwork, leadership and communication skills you must also have a master’s degree in a related field.

This can include physical science, maths, biological or computer science and engineering- only from an ‘accredited institution’.

Fear not though, as the master’s degree requirement can also be fulfilled in other ways.

You also qualify if: you have a medical degree, two years of work towards a doctoral program in a related field or if you have completed / you are currently in a nationally recognised test pilot program.

You must also have three years minimum of related professional experience and be able to complete NASA’s long-duration flight astronaut physical.

Other elements to note include drug testing, background investigation and fitness testing alongside medical and psychiatric examination.

And, an all-important swimming test must also be passed during your first month of training, as reported on What’s The Jam.

Easy enough right?

There are no age restrictions for the program, with past astronauts ranging between the ages of 26 and 46, averaging to be 34.

So, if you think that you have what it takes to set off into space and match all of NASA’s strict requirements- apply on their website.

Applications close on April 2.
