A rare solid gold Cadbury egg has gone on sale for a sweet £20,000.
The egg-straordinary slice of 1980s nostalgia is expected to whip up a bidding frenzy.
The gleaming prize was one of just 12 created for Cadbury’s famous 1983 Conundrum treasure hunt.

The 253g, 8cm-tall treasure was crafted by former Crown jewellers Garrard & Co and is expected to have bidders shelling out a small fortune.
Known as ‘Cuckoo Cuckoo’, it was linked to the 11th puzzle in the Conundrum book, which challenged would-be treasure hunters to crack a series of riddles to uncover hidden caskets buried around Britain.
The clue, written in West Country dialect, was inspired by the Cuckoos of Crewkerne folk tale and led Dorset treasure hunter Clive Pinder to Cricket St Thomas in Somerset, where he unearthed the prize in 1983.
After keeping the golden egg for 35 years, he sold it at auction in 2018 for £6,500.
Its current owner is now selling.

Finished in translucent green and blue enamel, the egg is decorated with finely engraved scenes of villagers gazing up at a cuckoo perched in a tree, while seven wheatsheaves appear on the reverse, as reported by What’s The Jam.
The lot comes complete with its original green leather presentation case, wooden casket, handwritten parchment letter, the perspex box it was buried in and a copy of Conundrum – The Cadbury’s Creme Egg Mystery by Don Shaw.
The nationwide campaign became one of Britain’s biggest treasure hunts, with armchair sleuths racing to unscramble riddles in the hope of striking gold.

It is being auctioned by Batemans, Stamford, Lincs, on Saturday, (1 August).
