Taco Bell is finally bringing one of its most famous US menu items to the UK after years of campaigning from fans desperate to try it.

The fast-food chain has confirmed that Mountain Dew Baja Blast will make its British debut later this month, following years of social media requests, online discussions and even a petition calling for the tropical lime-flavoured drink to cross the Atlantic.

According to Taco Bell, UK Google searches for Baja Blast have increased by 40% over the past five years as demand for the drink has continued to grow, as reported by What’s The Jam.

More than six years ago, fans even launched a Change.org petition urging Taco Bell to bring Baja Blast to Britain.

The petition says: “As Taco Bell continues to open stores across the UK, one thing has been mentioned by many Baja Blast fans, yet still, we are unable to get the sweet and delicious Baja Blast here in the UK.”

It adds: “If you have not yet had the chance to try Baja Blast, I promise you this petition is worth signing, and you will understand upon tasting the sweet nectar that is Baja Blast.”

One supporter commented: “My friend who lives in Europe really wants to try it and its way too good not to try at least once so yeah.”

The drink has built up an almost cult following in the US, with fans regularly sharing their love for it on social media.

One person wrote: “My go to drink.”

Another said: “My favourite summer drink!”

A third added: “Yum! Tastes like air conditioning after swimming on a hot summer day.”

Lucy Dee, marketing director at Taco Bell UK, said: “Baja Blast has built an incredible following over the years, and we’ve consistently heard from UK fans asking us to bring it here.

“This launch is about rewarding that passion and finally giving customers the opportunity to experience one of Taco Bell’s most iconic drinks for themselves.

“We know how much excitement there is around Baja Blast, and we can’t wait for fans to get their first taste.”

Steven Hind, chief marketing officer at PepsiCo Beverages UK, added: “Our partnership with Taco Bell has helped make Baja Blast one of Mountain Dew’s most distinctive flavour experiences: a drink with a loyal following, a bold tropical lime taste and a place firmly rooted in Taco Bell culture.

“Bringing it to the UK gives consumers something genuinely new and highly ownable, while extending a global partnership that has created some of the most memorable moments for Mountain Dew fans.

“It’s an exciting step for the brand and for the UK, as we continue to grow through flavours and partnerships that stand out.
