A rare James Bond poster from the first 007 movie has sold for £16,900 at auction.

It went for more than double the £8,000 estimate despite it being damaged.

The iconic yellow Dr No poster features a sketched drawing of Sean Connery as Bond along with four of his co-stars.

The poster for the 1962 film is 30 inches by 40 inches in size.

“A great poster for any collection, consigned from the estate of a cinema projectionist in the north of England.”

It was the highest-selling poster among 460 that were sold by Ewbank’s auction house in Woking, Surrey on Friday (2 Feb).

Another Bond one was from the 1965 film Thunderball – also starring the late Connery – who died aged 90 in 2020 – as the famous spy.

It was nearly three times the £1,500 price it was tipped to go for.

“Some damage to corners, pinholes,” the Ewbank’s spokesperson said.

“Biro title and number on reverse, aged well.”

One from the 1965 movie Help! starring The Beatles was bought for £1,820 – nearly four times the £500 estimate.

“Very good condition for age,” the listing said.

“Some damage to the corner, a few grubby marks. Colours remain good.”

A Carry On Spying poster from the 1964 film was bought for £1,560 – over three times the expected sale price, also £500.

The listing said: “Generally excellent condition. Some light marks to edges, light signs of ageing.”

One from the 1975 Hollywood movie Jaws went for £494 – still three times the £150 estimate.

But it did have a shark bite-like hole in it.

“Paper loss to lower central area, otherwise very good condition,” the condition report said.
