WILDERNESS CHALLENGE: Inside £116 a night stay where guests have to fend for themselves – with no electricity or running water and they have to forage for food

Fancy putting your survival skills to the test? Now you can in this ultimate wilderness challenge.

Across the news, doomsday “preppers” have been making a name for themselves; showing off their stock and skills for when disaster strikes.

But while cans of non-perishable goods last for a few weeks, the real task comes when there’s only the great wonders of nature left.

In Kolarybn Eco Lodge, located in the forests of Sweden, this is the case all year round.

With 12 lodges, there’s no electricity, showers or kitchens and those who stay will be put to the ultimate test of survival.

The traditional wood and mud huts have a fireplace, which can be fuelled with manually chopped wood from the surrounding trees.

For sleeping arrangements, there are two single beds and a sheepskin blanket, as well as sleeping bags, a travel pillow and an ice sheet for a long-deserved rest.

Fresh water is never far, with an abundance found in a nearby spring, which can be used to freshen up or wash the dishes.

As there are no supermarkets nearby, those staying are encouraged to forage mushrooms or berries and whip up a feast using the barbecue area.

While it’s tough, the silence and a chance for tranquility is to be desired.

And for those finding the task at hand too much, there’s the city of Skinnskatteberg nearby, where there are restaurants, supermarkets and cafés.
