A Michael Jordan jersey worn by the ex-basketball player in the early 90s has sold for £2.5m.

The classic shirt is bright red with ‘Bulls 23’ printed on the front and ‘Jordan’ on the back.

Experts said it was the only one they were aware had been photo matched to a season of the first Chicago Bulls three-peat, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The player, now 62, led the league in scoring for the seventh consecutive year.

He was named to both the All-NBA First Team and the NBA All-Defensive First Team for that season.

The listing at Heritage Auctions read: “In the postseason, he elevated his performance even further, averaging 35.1 points per game across nineteen playoff contests.

“His performance in the 1993 NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns was legendary, as he averaged 41 points per game over six games-a Finals record.

“Jordan earned his third straight NBA Finals MVP Award, and then shocked the sports world by announcing his first retirement, citing personal reasons and the recent loss of his father.

“So if you’re looking for high drama and a legend at the absolute pinnacle of his powers, you’ve found it here.

“Jordan would switch out uniforms far more often after his return from his first retirement, so only uniforms from this season and earlier will demonstrate this manner of extended wear.”

The shirt also came with matching shorts, a proof of authenticity and certificate of registration.

Businessman Michael, from Brooklyn, New York, is now a special contributor for NBC’s NBA coverage.
