The Loch Ness Monster was spotted on the famous water after blowing bubbles below the surface, a stunned woman claims.

Shocked Annette Harkins managed to get a snap of what she says is its hump which broke the surface.

She said bubbles came up, but Nessie then vanished.

Her photo was taken in clear conditions near Urquhart Castle on the banks of the loch.

Annette first spotted it with binoculars.

She described a dark grey shape lurking beneath the surface, blowing bubbles.

It then briefly surfaced before quickly submerging seconds later, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Annette said: “I was using binoculars at first for a short time, and I saw the waves change, so I kept looking.

“I saw a few bubbles that caught my attention.

“Then I saw a grey, dark shape.

“It was moving, so I took my mobile out.

“Then it went underwater and did not re-emerge.”

Annette has just submitted the details of her sighting to the Loch Ness Centre.

A spokesperson said Annette was standing on the shore at the time.

They added: “The observer initially using binoculars described a dark grey shape lurking beneath the surface water, blowing bubbles.

“Then briefly surfacing above the water before quickly submerging seconds later.

“The observer was able to capture a picture following several disturbances in the water before whatever was lurking quickly disappeared.”

Annette’s sighting happened on March 2 but has only just come to light,

Last year, underwater detectors picked up a regular heartbeat deep in Loch Ness.

The rhythmic pulsing was picked up on a hydrophone that was deployed 100 feet beneath the surface.

“At first we believed that the hydrophone might be getting dragged along the bottom,” Alan McKenna said.

The researcher, from Loch Ness Exploration, added: “But the boat skipper confirmed the cable was at least five metres from the bottom.

“You can clearly hear a rhythmic pulse or heartbeat within the recording.

“We’ve no idea what was causing this sound, but it’s very interesting.”
