A singer was left starstruck after Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong watched as he performed HIS hit Good Riddance at the Cavern Club.

The lead singer of the American rock band made a surprise appearance at the iconic venue – known as the birthplace of The Beatles.

Armstrong, 52, had been checking out the sites of Liverpool, visiting Strawberry Fields and the Beatles Story museums.

The local lad, from The Wirral, Merseyside, noticed the rock star was clapping and filming his performance on Tuesday (7 Jan).

Callum , 34, told What’s The Jam: “I played my first set; it wasn’t very busy.

“I went into the dressing room, came back out, and looked towards the bar, and he was standing ordering a drink.

“I jumped on stage and began to play my usual set.

“He stood at the back watching and filming my set, clapping after songs, and I didn’t really know what to do.

“I was starstruck but was enjoying the fact that no one had spotted him standing at the back, and he seemed to be just enjoying my gig.

“Without saying anything, I played Green Day’s Good Riddance, which is one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar.

“In my teens, my dad had some Green Day CDs in the house, and we played them in the car on road trips.

“I was given a guitar by my uncle Mike, who was a big punk fan, and I started to learn some Green Day.

“I even got a Green Day sticker from a magazine and stuck it on the front of the guitar.

“I have played at the Cavern Club for coming up to 10 years now.

“When I was younger, I used to come in and listen to live music, and it was a dream to play on the stage one day myself.

“I never thought I’d become one of their resident artists, and when a moment like this happens, it’s even better.”
