A hotel in Benidorm is adding a team of new staff members to help serve guests – but it’s not exactly service with a smile that you’ll receive.

Instead, The Climia Benidorm Hotel is set to use a fleet of eight robots, stationed in the rooms and reception area, with one specific program to pour beer.

The pilot project, called ‘The Hotel of the Future’, will see the mechanical team work directly with guests, with the robots programmed to have different functions and be able to speak 30 languages.

The robots were designed by Alicante-based company Bumerania, which has produced a range of bots for the hospitality sector, providing cleaning, serving, and delivery services.

The company CEO, Isidro Fernandez, said they are not designed to take away jobs from existing staff, reports What’s The Jam.

He told the local press: “They are there to help workers and improve efficiency to optimize resources and improve the customer experience as well as protecting the health of staff members, like preventing back pain.”

One of the eight robots will be based in reception, greeting guests, checking them in, printing room keys, and providing details about the hotel and local area.

Another will act as a waiter, able to carry up to 60kg of weight, taking dirty dishes and cutlery to the kitchen, as well as bringing orders to tables.

This, Fernandez said, will allow waiting for staff to “concentrate on serving the client”.

Other robots will focus on cleaning and room service.

Meanwhile, the beer bot has a high-tech arm that can pour out the perfect pint – which the team programmed it specifically to do, calculating the exact temperature and foam amount.
