Shoppers have been left fuming after spotting a supermarket selling mince pies that will be out of date before Christmas.

The £1.35 box of six Merry Mince Pies has an expiry date of 28 November.

One eagle-eyed shopper said: “I just don’t understand the need for selling them now.

“It’s a Christmas treat so, in my opinion, it shouldn’t be on the shelves until the end of November.

“The locals must agree with me as not one box had been taken from the shelves.

The yuletide treats were spotted in Co-Op Food, Ickenham, Uxbridge, as reported by What’s The Jam.

But they will have to buy them twice if they go out-of-date with a month to go

Last year, shoppers fell over themselves trying to get hold of Co-Op’s alternative flavour of mince pies.

The supermarket chain was selling Black Forest flavour versions of the Christmas favourite.

One sweet-toothed shopper posted a picture of the mince pies in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.

The new spin on the festive favourite was filled with a fruity brandy and ruby port mincemeat, morello cherry conserve, kirsch frosting and Belgian chocolate.

Co-op has been approached for a comment.
