A pair of park rangers have shown just how hot the weather is in the US right now by baking a dish on the hood of a car.

Parts of America are currently dealing with a record-breaking heatwave, such as San Francisco at 47°C and Las Vegas at 46°C.

Meanwhile, Arizona has been issued an excessive heat warning by the National Weather Service with “dangerously hot conditions”.

Rangers in Saguaro National Park, known to reach over 37°C in July, have gone to unusual measures to showcase the extreme heat levels.

They claim the dashboard of a car reached upwards of 93°C in just an hour after baking in the sun.

To demonstrate this further, a ranger brought two long trays of chocolate chip dough and placed it in direct sunlight, just above the steering wheel.

The loaf was left from 11am to 2pm, as reported by What’s The Jam.

In that time it had risen and baked.

The car had managed to go from an outside temperature of 36°C and inside temperature of 72°C to 40°C and 99.4°C respectively.

“Dude I got some banana bread at work today,” a Facebook post reads.“It’s that time of year again!

“Cooking in the car, cue theme music! infernal screaming.

“When in direct sunlight here in southern Arizona, with outside temperatures around 100°f, the dashboard of a car can reach upwards of 200°f in only an hour!

The car baking test took place on 28 June.Social media users have come out in droves to react to the images.

Mariah said: “I bet it smells amazing in the car.”

Julie commented: “Next time, slow cook some chilli.”

The rangers did the experiment as a warning to not leave people or pets in parked cars.

They added: “You know what’s not an ideal thing to cook in the car?

“People, and pets.

“Based on the previous 27 years of data from the National Safety Council, an average of 37 children die each year from heat due to being left in a vehicle.

“And hundreds of pets due to the same thing according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

“If you hear a cry, bark or similar from a parked car, take action right away.

“It only takes 10-20 minutes inside a hot car to become life threatening.

“Call the authorities and proceed from there by following their instructions.

“If leaving your car just remember, when it comes to heat, always check the back seat!”
