A couple have discovered a 100-year-old “creepy” secret room lurking beneath their home.
Hayley Gilmartin and her husband, Trevor, were removing a jacuzzi when they suddenly spotted the manhole.
The couple, both aged 30, were completely shocked, yet intrigued, by the discovery.

Now, they’re taking social media users on the journey as they uncover the mysterious water-filled room, which spans 20ft below their home, with one video racking up 23m views and over 1.3m likes on TikTok.
“It was a creepy discovery”, Hayley told What’s The Jam.
“We tested the water and found that it is safe.
“That’s when my husband, Trevor, decided to scuba dive and snorkel it.
“We scuba-dived in the river and found the other end of it which is a huge tunnel.”

Hayley and Trevor, living in Michigan, US, bought the home four years ago.
After doing some research, and speaking to their neighbours, they found out that there were a few other houses with similar tunnels.
They all back on to the Saint Clair River and Lake Huron, which flows between Michigan and Ontario, Canada,

It’s believed that these tunnels were once used to smuggle alcohol between Canada and the US during prohibition times, from 1920–1933.
In the clip, Hayley shows the original jacuzzi, before revealing the manhole cover.
Then, they go into the depths with a torch, where water and debris cover the dark area.
Finally, they show a wooden panelled wall, which they believe leads to the tunnel.
Since then, they’ve done some more digging and have started taking down the wooden slats.
But for now, due to the pipework and draining, the room remains inhabitable for the foreseeable.
Hayley added: “This room is still getting water from Lake Huron and the rivers that it is connected to – thus why it’s impossible to pump the water out.
“I expected my 50 friends to see the video and instead woke up to thousands of likes [and] views, which was crazy.
“It’s still continuing to blow up.”
Users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions, with many left feeling spooked.
